Review Info and Scale

I’m going to help you understand the process for how I will review games, and how many professional reviewers like review games, so that you will understand any of the reviews I’ve written and will write. When I’m done playing a game, I’m going to write my thoughts on that game so that you, the reader, will have a better understanding of the game and an understanding on if you might like the game. If I dislike a game, that doesn’t mean you won’t like it; it just means I didn’t like it.

Now, after my review, I’m going to list a score from a range of 1-10 (I will also be using half point intervals), and this score should make sense to you after you’ve read my review. This also makes sense for another reason because when I write my review, I’m going to come up with the score after I’ve written all of my thoughts on the game. And that score will be reflective of my overall satisfaction with the game.

Now, note this: scores for games don’t start off at a 10 and for every single flaw or imperfection with the game, a point is deducted from the score. That’s not how it works. The score is just reflective of the way I feel with the game. With your understanding of how I will review games and score games, you should check out what each score stands for below:

Masterpiece (10) – These are games that will live on in my heart for the rest of my life. When I think of some of the best games ever made, these are the games I will think of.

Fantastic (9) – These games are ones that have resonated with me; they’re games that I loved playing. And even though the experiences these games provided me with were awesome, their experience didn’t completely blow my mind away. It’s not like these games are flawed though; it’s just I feel there was something missing from the experience.

Great (8) – These games provided me with an experience that makes me happy to be a gamer. You can tell the game developers put love into the games, so the player would have a great experience. Sure, there might’ve been a hiccup or two in these games, but the experience I had with these games cannot be tarnished by those few hiccups.

Volume Bar 7Very Good (7) – Sometimes the line between great games and good games is a hard line to draw. Or sometimes you call the games that are on the line very good games!

Volume Bar 6Good (6) – I might not shout from the roofs claiming these are some of the best games ever, but people won’t find me shouting from the roofs proclaiming this is dog crap. That’s because even though there might’ve been some short comings with these games, I still had a positive experience with the games.

Volume Bar 5Mediocre (5) – These games kind of leave me with an apathetic feeling inside: sure it might’ve not been very good, but at least it also wasn’t very bad.

Volume Bar 4Meh (4) – You know how you sometimes get that slightly bitter taste in your mouth? Yeah, that’s what these games are like to me. They might’ve even tasted good at first, but ultimately, after I’m done with them, there’s only bitterness.

Volume Bar 3Weak (3) – These games have foundations that are feeble. Their foundations could consist of bad gameplay, bad story, or bad visuals (possibly even all of them), and with such bad foundations, these games come toppling to the ground.

Volume Bar 2Bad (2) – Do I even have to say anything? These games are just straight up bad!

Volume Bar 1Abysmal (1) – I’ll quote the late Roger Ebert who will say all there is needed to be said about these games: “I hated this [game]. Hated hated hated hated hated this [game]. Hated it. Hated every simpering stupid vacant audience-insulting moment of it. Hated the sensibility that thought anyone would like it. Hated the implied insult to the audience by its belief that anyone would be entertained by it.”
