The Witness Came Out Today!

IMG_0612Everybody stop what you’re doing right now. Seriously. Stop that shit right now unless I’m preaching to the choir or if you only own an Xbone (suckers) because you need to get The Witness.

It is my number 2 most anticipated game of 2016 (here’s the full list), and boy did it come fast. Usually we don’t have hard hitters til the end of the year, so the fact that it came out so early in the new year is badass. It seems like it could be one of the best games of the year too (as much as I don’t like to look at review scores, I saw two earlier, and it seems like The Witness is getting rave reviews).

For those of you that don’t know, The Witness is a first person open world puzzle game made by the indie game genius: Jonathan Blow. It’s said to be 80 hours long, have over 660 puzzles, and there’s a puzzle that Blow thinks less than 1% of the players will beat.

So it sounds tough as hell, but my brain is ready for the challenge. I haven’t had a game cognitively challenge me in a while, and it seems like The Witness will do that times a million. Honestly, if it’s true that there’s a puzzle that less than 1% of the players will beat, then I really want to beat that puzzle. I want the bragging rights that come with that.

Anyways, The Witness is on Steam and PSN for a very, very modest $40 (that’s cheap as hell!), and if you feel like giving yourself a challenge in what looks like one of the most beautiful game worlds I’ve ever seen, you need to get it! It seems like Jonathan Blow has done something very special and ambitious with his game, and this ambition should be rewarded.

I mean we reward games like Call of Duty or any other annually released game that don’t have much ambition, so if we don’t support a person who is trying to do something brilliant, then we will have truly fucked ourselves over.
